McDonald’s: Viral Ad from Japan

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=i6n9JBlebFw&feature=related

This video is an advertisement for McDonald’s From Japan.  This video seems to be very serious.  It has a guy dressed up like Ronald McDonald, but in a very serious and stylish way.  He then pulls a burger out from behind him.

It seems like they were going for a serious and stylish commercial, but I thought it was very humorous.  I can’t tell if the commercial was really supposed to be serious, or if it was supposed to be humorous because of how serious it seemed.  I just can’t see a commercial like this for McDonald’s because it is a fast food restaurant, not a stylish brand.

It could have been a spoof, like he pulled out the burger like a gun in order to say this is going to kill you, or it could just be another one of those crazy japanies ads. i have seen some pretty weird stuff come out of japan that is a big hit there, but we look at it as if they where freaks. so there may be more to the ad or its just another dumb japanies ad.

The thing is that the Japanese have a very different type of humor than Americans do. I mean, I bet if they saw an Old Spice commercial in America they would think it’s very stupid. Also, the entire concept of the Burger King character is pretty absurd as well. I’m fairly certain this wasn’t intended to be a serious commercial, for all we know the actor in the Ronald costume could even be a Japanese celebrity which would just add to the humor.
